Attabad Lake, Hunza: A Beautiful Outcome Of A Natural Catastrophe
Attabad Lake is a breathtaking sight. It’s a true representation of “there’s always light at the end of the tunnel” or “ease follows adversity.”
Attabad Lake is roughly a half-hour drive from Karimabad, the headquarters of the Hunza region in Gilgit-Baltistan, and is included in practically every tour to Hunza.
A geological event resulted in the formation of Attabad Lake in Hunza.
In January 2010, a big landslide blocked the Hunza River’s flow, creating a large dam and putting the lives of 20 people in danger. Thousands of people were swept away by the rising water, and many communities were drowned.
In 2012, a method for releasing a continuous flow of water was discovered, and the water slowly receded.
Fortunately, the naturally occurring dam did not fail, and the accident created an unexpected attraction that could become a tourist attraction in the future.
This is a magnificent aqua lake that has become one of Pakistan’s most popular tourist destinations.
The lake usually covers over in the winter, but in the spring and early summer, the water is refreshingly cool and a magnificent greenish turquoise color.
