A Tourist Guide To Istanbul For First-Time Travelers (2022)

Istanbul is a fantastic city. It’s one of the most beautiful cities we’ve ever visited. It’s a city that anyone would want to visit again and again, thanks to its stunning architecture, delectable cuisine, and some of the friendliest, most genuine people on the planet.

Istanbul is Turkey’s commercial, financial, and cultural hub. It is also the country’s largest metropolis, with a population of slightly over 15 million people, making it one of Europe’s and the world’s most populous cities. It’s easy to believe that Istanbul is Turkey’s capital for these reasons, but it isn’t.

Istanbul is geographically unique in that it is one of only a few cities that crosses two continents, with locations on both sides of the Bosphorus. The city’s western half is found in Eastern, whereas the eastern half is placed in Asia.

The greatest time to visit Istanbul is in the spring (March-May), followed by the autumn (September-November). During both seasons, crowds are thinner, and the weather is mild, however Autumn has more rain than Spring.

Things to Remember

  1. You’ll need Turkish Liras (TL) in smaller denominations (5, 10, 20) to pay for the transportation services mentioned above. You can withdraw TL from an ATM or exchange a small amount of foreign currency at either airport.
  2. If you’ll be taking the metro and/or ferry, then you can save on the fare by purchasing an Istanbul kart.
  3. There are countless hotels in Istanbul. If you’ll be taking a taxi, then it’s best that you have a printout or screenshot of your hotel’s complete address and telephone number to show the driver.
