Exploring The Royal Residence At Hohenschwangau Castle
You won’t want to miss Hohenschwangau Castle if you’ve been to Neuschwanstein Castle. This castle, like Castle Neuschwanstein, is perched between the Lapse and the Schwansee on a mountaintop. It is located to the south of Neuschwanstein Castle. It is bought by Ludwig II’s father, Maximilian II, in 1832 and reconstructed in the Gothic style.
Hohenschwangau Castle is one of the four fabled castles associated with the “Mad” King Ludwig. It is the smallest of the four castles, but it has a warm and inviting atmosphere that sets it apart from his other castles, which are colder and more formal. Unfortunately, photography is not permitted when touring the castle’s interior.
Even though Hohenschwangau Castle lacks the same vast, magical, and romantic sensations as its spectacular neighbor, it swiftly became one of the Royal family’s favorite residences. Every summer, King Maximilian would visit the castle with his Queen Marie and their two young princes, Otto and Ludwig. They planned to stay for a few weeks, with the King going hunting and the Queen going hiking. She would also take her two princes to Schwansee, an Alpine Lake, to feed the swans.
