Skardu: Cold Desert, Arising Out From Ocean Of Clouds
The Sarfaranga Cold Desert is located on the banks of the Indus River in Skardu. The term comes from the fact that it is a high-altitude desert surrounded by steep mountains at 2,500 metres (8,200 feet). Beautiful dunes are formed by the sand along the river.
The sand dunes are reminiscent of the beauty of the Sahara Desert or the Namib Desert, with peaks rising beyond 5,000 metres above sea level surrounding the sand dunes on all sides. Making it feel so enigmatic. In its true spirit, the frigid desert painted near the Indus River embodies mystique. Its landscape includes a wide white desert along the Indus River’s bank, an asphalted Shigar Road that runs across the sand dunes, and ice-capped mountains in the distance
The Indus River’s crystal-clear water reflects the diversity of landscape within sight as it flows across the desert. Visitors are drawn to the sand dunes, which are covered with snow in the winter and move with strong winds. It resembles a moonscape rather than a landscape.
