The Definitive Cinque Terre Travel Guide

Cinque Terre is a collection of five small settlements located near La Spezia. Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore are the five villages. The communities are completely diverse, despite their similar appearance.

The best way to get to Cinque Terre is via train from La Spezia or Portofino. It takes little more than 15 minutes to travel between the settlements by train.

It is only possible to walk between Monterosso and Vernazza in good weather. As a result, please double-check to ensure if the walking route is open ahead of time. The settlements can also be reached by boat, except for Corniglia. The weather must be cooperative once more.

Monterosso is the last Cinque Terre settlement reached by train from La Spezia. The (big) beach is the village’s distinguishing feature. There are various beach beds and umbrellas available for a few hours of relaxation.

Vernazza is the second village. Vernazza is distinguished for its modest harbour. In favorable weather, Vernazza can also be accessed by boat. Numerous restaurants and souvenir shops can be found in Vernazza’s center.

Corniglia follows Vernazza. Corniglia is the only settlement that cannot be reached by boat due to its lack of proximity to the sea. Corniglia, on the other hand, is built roughly 100 meters higher up the mountain.

Manarola is the Cinque Terre’s oldest village and is well known for its native wine. You may go up the mountain on Manarola’s northern side if you stroll down from the station.

Riomaggiore’s houses are brightly colored and tastefully constructed along the coast. A spectacular sunset may be seen from the rocky outcroppings off the coast. It’s really relaxing to just sit there for a bit. There are also some good eateries to choose from.
