Gezira Island is Cairo’s coolest area. The region is populated by young, creative Egyptians. The authentic buildings with galleries, which are flanked by the Nile River, provide a peaceful respite from the hectic daily life on the mainland. One of the best things to do in Cairo is to go to Gezira.

Mosque of Ibn Tulun – surprising thing to do in Cairo

The Ibn Tulun Mosque, one of Cairo’s most beautiful mosques, is in a non-touristy district surrounded by dirt roads. A big mosque with all its original features. From the neighboring tower, you may get an aerial perspective or walk about on the second floor.

Back in time at the Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum houses the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts in the world. In the mummy, you may even see real preserved mummies. It is an activity that is highly recommended in Cairo. Expect to spend 2–4 hours at the museum.

The Hanging Church

It is known as ‘The Hanging Church’ because it is built on top of an ancient Roman castle. The exquisite mosaic paintings and embellishments of the Roman cathedral are still in use. The Muhammad Ali Mosque is situated on a hilltop within the Cairo Citadel. The majestic limestone mosque is a lovely place to spend a couple of hours and boasts a panoramic view of the city.
